WATCH: NOT QUITE DUNN; Junction Road in St Mary closed, says NWA

A massive crack along the Junction main road has resulted in the closure of a section of the thoroughfare.

A massive crack along the Junction main road has resulted in the closure of a section of the thoroughfare.

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that the Junction Road in St Mary has been closed to vehicular traffic.

In a tweet on Monday night, the agency said "the road is closed at Chovey/Westmoreland Bridge due to a failure in the embankment".

The magnitude of the failure can be seen in a video obtained by Loop News.

"Please do not attempt to use this corridor, as more significant movement in the embankment is expected," the NWA advised.

"Motorists are advised to use Grandie Hole as an alternative route," the NWA said.

Some motorists on Monday night attempted to use the roadway, but residents warned them not to attempt to cross the large crack that runs across the roadway.

An extensive road rehabilitation project is currently under way on sections of the Junction main road.

Earlier on Monday, before the crack developed in the roadway, Member of Parliament (MP) for South East St Mary, Dr Norman Dunn, posted photographs on Twitter of the new-look thoroughfare.

He tweeted: "Motorist travelling through the Broadgate to Chovey area will notice that the road has been marked and is looking beautiful.

"Additional paving work is also being carried out as we work to complete the #caaypet in phase one of the Junction Road Improvement Project. #GettingThingsDunn."
