Vincy Mas latest carnival to be cancelled due to COVID-19
Vincy Mas 2020 has joined the list of regional carnivals to be cancelled.
The decision to cancel the June event was made after the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) submitted its recommendations to the Government following discussions by way of letters with pan, calypso and mas stakeholders.
While accepting the recommendations to cancel the event, Cabinet said if circumstances permit, a summer festival will be held with all stakeholders.
Esworth Roberts, Development and Marketing Officer of the CDC, said the cancellation of Vincy Mas would result in a negative economic impact on the island.
“A lot of the players for carnival, private promoters the mas men, pan men, calypsonians already invested money in preparation for Vincy Mas, and this is the time they make a lot of money, and this is the time a lot of money would be circulating,” he told Loop.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves assured carnival stakeholders that they will be included in the Economic Review and Stimulus package to be presented to Parliament on April 7.
