Two more COVID-19 deaths recorded; 44 new cases

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has announced the recording of two more COVID-19-related deaths locally within a 24-hour period ending Saturday afternoon, bringing the confirmed COVID-19 death toll nationally to 188.

The deceased are a 72-year-old male of a St. Catherine address and a 70-year-old male of a St Elizabeth address.

Additionally, the ministry has advised of 44 new cases of the virus over the same 24-hour period, bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases nationally to 8,714.

The new cases include 24 males and 20 females.

The ages among the new cases range from nine months to 96 years.

Over the 24-hour period, a total of 461samples were tested, the ministry reported.

And recoveries also increased significantly, with 73 cases being recorded.

The ministry also reported that of 134 persons now hospitalised for the virus, 21 are classified as being moderately ill, while 4 are classified as being critically ill.
