Ocho Rios-based foodie enclave, Miss T’s Kitchen and popular Jerk spot Scotchies, Montego Bay are nominees of USA Today’s Best Restaurants in the Caribbean award.

Currently ranked #3 and #14 of the 20 eateries nominated, Loop Lifestyle reckons the popular hideaway and chophouse have easily secured the top 15 spots. Preceding Miss T’s in first place is Lime Out in St John, US Virgin Island, followed by Elements Restaurant in Aruba.

The Best Restaurant in the Caribbean category is a sub-category of the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards 2020 and was tallied by travel journalists Melanie Reffes and Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon.

Other Caribbean nominees include Banana Bay in Freeport, Bahamas, Sheer Rocks in Antigua, and Jade Mountain Club in St Lucia.

It is important to note that restaurants in Cayman, Cuba, Bahamas, St Barths, Martinique and several other Caribbean territories – known primarily for fare/experience – did not make the cut.

A listing from Caribbean Journal provides a more expansive list, that when combined with the USA Today listing, gives a succinct directory for first-time visitors.

Moreover, other categories include Best Caribbean Golf Course, Best Caribbean Attraction, and Best Caribbean Resort, and Best Caribbean Rum Distillery – of which Appleton Estate and Hampden Estate Rum are nominees.

If you’ve ever dined at the midtown hotspot, you know the award is well-deserved.

Miss T’s Kitchen is an award-winning establishment “in the heart of Ocho Rios” owned by St Ann resident Anna-Kay Tomlinson.

Miss T’s offers authentic Jamaican fare and the team at Miss T’s are keen on experimenting with new ideas and ways to improve the menu.

Their boneless oxtail pasta and curried mutton are among the most-requested dishes. But, there are also options for vegans/vegetarians.

If you happen to stop by, ask for the Ackee soup, it’ll be like nothing you’ve had before. See menu here

Last March, Tomlinson and friends christened Miss T’s @ Murphy Hill Kitchen’s new location with the birthday celebration of her hubby, paediatrician Dr Osmond Tomlinson’s 60th birthday.

Overlooking the North Coast from Murphy Hill, Beecher Town in Ocho Rios is Miss T’s @ Murphy Hill.

Tomlinson decided to move on up to the hills for a better view, a larger space, and a chance to offer a more exclusive Miss T’s experience.

Though Miss T’s @ Murphy Hill is open on request, both spots are open for business daily.
