tTech becomes IT partner to inner-city homeschool programme

Jamaican-based Managed IT Services provider, tTech, recently made a donation towards the City Kids Homeschool Programme, which was officially launched on Thursday, October 1, 2020 with an Open House ceremony in the Parade Gardens community of downtown, Kingston – ahead of the new school term.

The sum of $250,000 will be used to provide wifi data for the tutors, parent-teachers and students within the programme, in addition to tTech’s commitment to provide snacks, refreshments, relief package supplies and training support for the learning clusters.

The City Kids Homeschool initiative, is the brainchild of a Parade Gardens resident affectionately known as ‘Aunty Paula’ and Pastor Carrington Morgan, Executive Director of the local non-profit City Life Ministries, aims to provide some much needed academic support to inner-city children through the establishment of homeschool clusters in three inner-city communities in Kingston: Waterhouse, Tivoli Gardens and Parade Gardens. 

It also aims to facilitate training for “parent-teachers” in the use of ICTs as well as curriculum delivery and hygiene amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

tTech Limited, as the IT partner of the programme, will assist in the training efforts through its creation of specially curated instructional videos that will serve to empower parents to better manage their homeschool setting and navigate virtual learning platforms.

Speaking about tTech’s involvement in the programme, Marketing and HR Manager for tTech, Gillian Murray, stated, “tTech works and operates within the downtown Kingston community, so we saw it as a natural fit to partner with City Life for this timely initiative. Our corporate social responsibility philosophy speaks to youth and community development and we believe that if you impact a child’s life, you impact a community and further, the country. So, when the programme came about, tTech was pleased to jump onboard – even reaching out to World Brands Services, a division of GraceKennedy Foods who partnered with us and lent their support to the cause”.
