Things we’ll miss the most from Miss May at Hellshire

Since news broke of the passing of Hellshire seafood savant May Byrou, many Loop News readers have shared their condolences and encouragement.
For many years, May “Miss May” Byrou has been a staple of exquisite fare at Hellshire Beach – many patrons have recalled visiting with family and friends for a wonderful and original Jamaican seaside experience.
But, what kept so many coming back was Miss May’s charm and all-round welcoming personality.
“Come for the food, stay for Miss May,” one user commented; she really had a big following.

1 "Fluffy festival and soupy steam fish," wrote Ronée Campbell, after adding “That’s MY spot, right side a Prendy’s.”

3 “The food is super good I think they have the best fish in Hellshire, she was always at the front when I’d visit and always pleasant…” Marcus Daley submitted.
4 “I remember she always sat at the front and I was able to get that “only customer in the world vibe” just from her smile,” Tali Fraser commented.
“Once when I didn’t have [enough] to pay full price for a fish and lobster order, she said ‘mek she gwaan man, next week mi catch her back’ I’ll miss that.”

8 Kerry Rose, a Jamaican living and studying in Canada recalls two trips to the seaside eatery. She loves it there.
“And,” she added, “you get brawta!” Rose also mentioned that May was brilliant at customer service.
“The food was good and you get a lot compared to other restaurants there”.
