St James Police Quick Response Team nabs murder suspect in minutes

For the second time within just days, the quick action of police in St James led to the arrest of a suspect in a case of murder in the parish.

The first incident occurred last Friday when two suspected top-tier gang members were intercepted after a murder and were captured following a gunfight with the police in which the suspects were shot and injured.

The second incident unfolded on Tuesday, September 15.

In the latter case, the deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Ryan Stevenson, a vendor of Retirement district in the parish.

Reports from the Barnett Street police are that about 4:10 pm on Tuesday, Stevenson and the now suspect had an altercation, during which a knife was used to inflict stab wounds to Stephenson.

He was transported to the hospital by residents and was later pronounced dead.

The police were summoned and contact was made with the police division’s Quick Response Team that was in the area.

The Quick Response Team responded promptly and within minutes, the suspect was apprehended.

Police investigations continue into both incidents.
