Seven persons were shot by marauding gunmen on Tuesday night in Southborough, Portmore, St Catherine.

Two of them later died and the other five were hospitalised. One of the deceased men has been identified as Jason Thomas, who police say had been attacked three to four months ago by armed men.

Three of the five persons who were injured were treated and sent home, with two remaining hospitalised, one of whom is former Portmore United striker, Maalique Foster, who is reportedly undergoing surgery.

Reports are that four men carried out the vicious attack about 9 pm, pouncing on a group playing dominoes in a yard. They opened fire, injuring seven people. This is the second major shooting in the community in the last few months.

The 23 year-old national footballer Foster represented Jamaica College and won the Manning Cup title with the Old Hope Road-based school before joining Portmore United in 2015. In 2018, he joined Costa Rican club Alajuelense and is currently on loan with Israeli Premier Division side Ironi Kiryat Shmona.
