Man linked to several robberies held by citizens, handed over to cops
Police are hailing residents in sections of Mandeville after they managed to apprehend a man suspected to be behind a number of break-ins in their area.
Reports are that for several weeks a number of reports were made about robberies and break-ins but police said they were not able to catch the perpetrators.
Police report that they were able to make a breakthrough thanks to citizens who held a 47-year-old man identified as one of the main suspects behind the crime.
The man identified as Omar Forbes of North Race Course Road was apprehended and handed over to the police after residents reportedly spotted him with stockings and other items allegedly stolen from a store in the town centre.
Police said after the man was handed over to them, others investigations were carried out and according to the police, Forbes was linked to two incidents, one on Thursday, May 14 and the other on Saturday, May 16. Details on those incidents were not provided by the police.
Police said Forbes has since been charged. A court date for Forbes is being arranged.
Meanwhile, the police are urging persons to contact their local police or the 119 emergency number whenever suspects or suspicious persons are seen in their communities, as attempting to apprehend such persons can expose persons to tremendous risk.
