Eighteen-year-old Jamaican Jahzan McLaughlin and her mother Zandriann Maye won the hearts of American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan in the 2020 auditions.

McLaughlin, a Jamaican-born dancer, singer, actress follows in her mother's footsteps on the creative art career path.

The two were Kingston natives, who recently moved to the US after years of hardship faced in Jamaica and "for safety reasons".

But, from JCDC festival competitions to the streets of New York, McLaughlin is now a competitor in American Idol and paving her way to success.

"I'd really really like to say thank you, thank you to everyone...I'm just so thankful for everyone, and the support I'm getting is just unbelievable," McLaughlin shared in a YouTube vlog yesterday.

"I feel so good, my country is so proud of me, everyone is so proud of me, especially the people who have been there from day one," she continued.
