Cop kills 1 of 2 ‘gunmen’ who ‘pounced on stranded taxi passengers’

A man was shot dead and a firearm reportedly seized during an incident on Sun Valley main road in Montego Hills, St James on Friday, October 16.

The deceased is 21-year-old Marvan Bowman, otherwise called ‘Chin Mix’, of Bottom Pen, St James.

Reports from the Montego Hills police are that about 8:45 pm, an off-duty police officer was travelling in a taxi which ran out of petrol on the Sun Valley main road.

Bowman and another man who were seemingly hiding in bushes, reportedly approached the vehicle armed with guns.

The police officer opened gunfire on the men, who ran.

Bowman fell in the process, clutching what turned out to be a Dessert Eagle pistol with five .50 cartridges.

The firearm was retrieved and Bowman was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigations, including by the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM), are ongoing into the incident.
