Inspired by a quote from the ‘champion of American cuisine’, James Beard, Jamaican Barbra-Lee Grant opted to treat ‘her lovely staff’ to a truly Jamaican experience.
To get this done, Grant relied on a number of self-taught kitchen principles many Jamaicans and people from the Caribbean would recognise.
She went into the kitchen and cooked some traditional Jamaican fare.
In a video the model shared on Instagram, she detailed the process from stirring a pot of cornmeal porridge to introducing the spread at the agency’s headquarters.
On the menu was: curried chicken, rice and peas, oxtails and beans, fried ripe plantains, cornmeal porridge, and helpings of shredded vegetables and a bowl of fruits.
‘We’re all having a tough year and I wanted the team to have a memorable day,’ she shared.
‘I decided to surprise this lovely team with a #yaadie experience.’
Even better than the gesture was the response from the team, most of which have never tasted Jamaican food.
‘Let me tell you they loved it so much, from the cornmeal porridge for breakfast to the lunch feast.’
One of the agents Danielle Marie commented ‘The most DELICIOUS workday! You’re truly an angel on earth, Barb!! Thank you so much again ❤️❤️.’
Cynthia Maria wrote: ‘Barb! You’re so special princess 💛 thank you for such a lovely surprise!’
Barbra-Lee Grant is a regular in the kitchen and loves to cook, and on occasion, has shared her #chefbarbz #cookingchronicles on her Instagram page.
The Jamaican-born model, who currently resides in New York, is signed to agencies in the US, Great Britain, France, and Italy.
Her mother agency is Saint International in Jamaica.
