Anguilla looks to woo more Caribbean visitors in 2021

Anguilla will be seeking to attract more Caribbean visitors to its shores next year.

Speaking at a Caribbean Hotels and Tourism Association (CHTA) webinar on Wednesday, Kenroy Herbert, Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board, said a Caribbean representative will be appointed to market the island to the region next year.

Speaking to Loop News, Herbert said they will be targeting all the islands in the region.

Anguilla receives about 4.4 per cent of its visitors from the Caribbean. The United States is the island’s largest source market, accounting for about 66 per cent of visitors.

Herbert said most of the Caribbean visitors come from the Eastern Caribbean from islands such as Antigua, St Maarten/St Martin, St Kitts and Nevis and St Lucia.

He said a lack of direct airlift has been the main challenge for visitors from the Southern Caribbean.

He revealed that his office is actually in talks with several airlines to address the issue and improve Caribbean traffic to Anguilla.

The island, which has been COVID-free for the last eight months, having registered a total of three cases, entered phase two of its reopening on November 1.

During his presentation to the CHTA webinar, Herbert extolled the beauty of Anguilla, among them its over 30 beaches which he said are never crowded, thus making them perfect for social distancing requirements during this time.

He told Loop that Caribbean travellers would love the culture which is showcased in a number of events such as boat racing, the island’s national sport, and Carnival, which Anguilla was able to hold this year due to its strict COVID-19 management.

He said the warmth and friendly nature of Anguillans is also a big factor in the country’s appeal, and contributes to their high repeat of clientele.
