Academy for Women Entrepreneurs' summit kicks off on Monday
With Global Entrepreneurship Week to be observed from November 16 to 22, the US Embassy Jamaica has partnered with the Youth for Development Network (YFDN) to host the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Jamaica Digital Summit.
The summit highlights the work of young female entrepreneurs who are making a name in their field or industry, while offering empowerment to those who have just embarked on their entrepreneurship journey.
The three-day event which will be held both in-person and virtually will run from Monday, November 16 to Wednesday, November 18 at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in New Kingston with highlights shown on social media.
It will be held under the theme “Valuing Our Women (VOW)-Entrepreneurs Edition.” The Summit will feature local and international speakers offering strategies to empower female entrepreneurs to attain high levels of success.
Among the Speakers are Therese Turner-Jones, General Manager-Inter-American Development Bank; Keneea Linton-George – CEO and Designer, Keneea Linton Boutique; Sandra A.C. Walter-Glasgow, Co-founder First Angels JA; and Robert Adelson, Public Affairs Officer, US Embassy Jamaica.
According to Andre Wilson, Executive Director of YFDN, the event is a timely one as many businesses deal with the impact of COVID-19.
“Some of these female entrepreneurs have had to learn to pivot with their business or service while others are just in the initial stages and certainly need that motivation to persevere. We know that many of the world’s most successful businesses were birthed in a crisis and we feel it is vital to empower all entrepreneurs but especially our female entrepreneurs at a time like this.”
