Wayne DaCosta's Mr Universe lands open allowance race
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.
MR UNIVERSE easily tracked stablemate LADY BLUE and sprinted off at the top of the lane to land Saturday's open allowance at five and a half furlongs at Caymanas Park.
Taking over three furlongs out with apprentice Raddesh Roman, MR UNIVERSE used his class to keep LADY BLUE at bay, closing the stable exacta for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, who started the day trailing Anthony Nunes by $5.5m in stakes.
Nunes' filly, EXHILARATE, missed the break against MR UNIVERSE but his YETAGAIN made no mistake in the next race.
YETAGAIN won by three-quarter length ahead of 2-1 chance FRESH CASH at six and a half furlongs with Dane Nelson.
Nunes' stakes lead sits at $5.2m ahead of DaCosta with 10 days remaining to close the season.
Trainer Spencer Chung saddled two winners, first-timer TRULY AMAZING in the second event, at five furlongs straight, and EXTRUDER in the sixth at six and a half furlongs.
Outgoing champion jockey, Anthony Thomas, was aboard two winners, BIG BLACK NATION and COURT CALL, in the fifth and ninth races, respectively.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park next Saturday.
