Reggae Marathon race director Alfred 'Franno' Francis says the event has managed to maintain a strong level of participation despite an increasingly competitive international market for running events.

Francis told Loop Jamaica after the 17th staging of the Reggae Marathon in Negril on Saturday that around 2,300 persons participated in the event this year including representatives from more than 34 countries.

"This year we maintained the same level as last year… things are declining globally because there are more events but we have managed to maintain, which is good," he said.
