Two Corporate Area men charged with murder and more in Manchester
A team of officers from the Manchester Police Division arrested and charged two men with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition last Thursday.
Dead is 38-year-old Cornel Whitfield, otherwise called ‘Zeeks’, a mason of Clarks Town Road, Mandeville, Manchester.
Charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition are 43-year-old Mario Martin, otherwise called ‘Kevin’, a mason of Cassia Crescent, Olympic Gardens, St Andrew, and 32-year-old Jesse Reynolds, otherwise called ‘Chase’, a janitor of Water Street, Denham Town, Kingston 14.
Reports are that about 10.40 am, Whitfield was among a group of persons who were at a shop playing a game of dominoes, when he was pounced upon, allegedly by Martin and Reynolds, who were armed with guns, and who opened fire, hitting Whitfield several times.
The police were alerted and he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other persons escaped injury from the attack.
Following investigations, Martin and Reynolds were arrested and placed on an identification parade, where they were pointed out.
They were subsequently charged by investigators.
The two men are scheduled to appear in court at a date to be announced.
Investigations continue into the incident.
