Two charged after $2.6 million ganja seizure offshore
Two men were arrested and later charged after the vessel they were on was intercepted by the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard off the shore of Negril, Westmoreland on Tuesday, October 22.
The men have been identified as 36-year-old Shamar Hamilton, a taxi operator of Smithfield in Westmoreland, and 32-year-old Perry Denmark of Runaway Bay in St Ann.
Reports are that about 3pm, the vessel was searched and approximately 650 pounds of compressed ganja was found on board.
The drug has an estimated street value of $2.6 million.
According to the Narcotics Police, the men were charged jointly with the offences of possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps preparatory to exporting ganja, conspiracy and use of conveyance.
The accused men are scheduled to appear in the Westmoreland Parish Court on Wednesday, October 30.
