Peking Cruz fancied for GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup

Course-specialist PEKING CRUZ returns to his pet trip, five furlongs straight, in Saturday’s GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park after being caught at six and a half furlongs last Sunday by CRYPTOCURRENCY.

PEKING CRUZ won his last race at the distance, last September, and showed his preference for the trip on his second run off the COVID-19 break, losing in a driving finish to in-form UNIVERSAL BOSS on July 18.

In his follow-up race, August 1, PEKING CRUZ  placed fifth behind FATHER PATRICK in a sharp five-and-a-furlong sprint, which has since been franked by himself and two winners – runner-up WARTIME and CRYPTOCURRENCY.

PEKING CRUZ turned for home very wide and gained on the horses chasing FATHER PATRICK - GOD OF LOVE, CORAZON and BOLD AFLAIR. WARTIME ran on from off the pace to clinch second and returned to win two Saturdays ago, beating CRYPTOCURRENCY by a neck.

PEKING CRUZ will break from post-position seven in the nine-horse field with Omar Walker astride, replacing Dick Cardenas. ROJORN DI PILOT, who was fifth behind UNIVERSAL BOSS and PEKING CRUZ on July 18, ran an improved race finishing sixth to FATHER PATRICK and appears the main threat to the favourite.

The GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup is set to run off at 4:40 pm as the eighth event. First post is 12:30 pm.
