Open mic clash and talent showcase weekly at Konsequence Studio
With the advent of the Internet, where people can more easily get their fix of performance art by up-and-comers, open mic nights have waned in popularity. However, the Konsequence Muzik label is reigniting the time-honoured tradition of open mic nights with an edgy clash format that will allow artistes to face off for weekly cash prizes.
"Konsequence Muzik is hosting an open mic night every Friday at our Constant Spring Road studio to showcase those in the reggae-dancehall industry with the clash flair and skill. The winner gets $20,000 weekly. The top six contestants with the most wins will get the chance to compete for a cash prize of $150,000 every week," Konsequence said.
An open mic or open mike (derived from the expression "open microphone") is a live show at a coffeehouse, nightclub, comedy club, strip club, institution or pub at which audience members who are amateur performers or professionals who want to try out new material or plug an upcoming show are given the opportunity to perform onstage.
All contestants must call 876 498-4019 the day before the contest to be eligible to enter the contest. There is also a $1,000 entry fee.
"This format will allow artistes to showcase their talent and get a possible chance to voice with Konsequence Muzik in the near future," he said.
The event is hosted by Gloc and General B, with music provided by Diamond League with guest selectors weekly.
