Despite steps being taken to reopen the economy, nightly curfews are to continue throughout the month of June, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced.

This is while the Government continues to take steps to manage the coronavirus (COVID-19) challenges on the island.

Speaking from Jamaica House on Sunday, the prime minister said from Monday, June 1 until June 14, the curfew are to run from 9pm until 5am daily.

The curfew hours are to be relaxed from June 15 to June 30, during which time the measure is to run from 10pm until 5am the next morning.

During the curfew hours, operators of licensed public passenger vehicles, whether state or privately operated, are to be allowed to operate one hour after the measure comes into force, to make their way home.

Transport operators are not allowed to transport passengers in their vehicles during the extra hour that they are allotted.

Meanwhile, there are no restrictions on businesses other than that they are obliged to abide by the curfew hours, Holness said.
