Cinemas and theatres to be reopened Sunday

All cinemas and theatres will be reopened to the general public effective this Sunday, July 5, for an initial 14 days.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie made the announcement Wednesday afternoon during the sitting of the House of Representatives.

Dining in restaurants will be allowed as of Thursday, July 2, with no more than 50 per cent capacity, he added.

In the meantime, beaches and rivers, which have been under scrutiny due to numerous COVID-19 breaches, will be strictly monitored including by the police, McKenzie said.

He added that where breaches are observed, those facilities in violation will be ordered close with immediate effect and criminal sanctions may apply.
