British man on trip around world found dead on yacht in Jamaica

A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the body of a British man who was found on his yacht off the coast of Ocho Rios last Monday.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Mark Brennan of South Shields in the United Kingdom.

According to maritime website, Boatwatch, Brennan arrived on board his yacht called the ‘Avio’ in Grenada from Barbados on December 2, on what was described his "pleasure trip around the world".

Boatwatch, which is run by volunteers who help track missing vessels, said another sailor raised an alarm after seeing Brennan leave the marina in the dark on December 6.

The British police were formally notified of Brennan's disappearance on December 21.

After weeks of trying to locate him, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard was notified by the United States Coast Guard on Monday night, January 27 about the presence of the Avio in Jamaican waters.

The vessel, which had no radio or cellular telephone, was later spotted 71 nautical miles north-west of Ocho Rios with Brennan's decomposed body on board.

The yacht was towed by the coast guard vessel to the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio, Portland.

The body was later removed to the morgue, where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted.
