4 top-of-the-table games on today as daCosta Cup return matches start

Four top-of-the-table games will highlight Match Day 14 of the 2018 ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Wednesday, which signals the start of return matches in the preliminary round.

Thirty-eight matches are scheduled for the day, all starting at 3:30 pm.

The top-of-the-table matches are Cornwall College, 12-time winners of the competition, against Green Pond High in Zone A; Manchester High against B.B. Coke in Zone F; Knox College against Spallding High in Zone G and St Mary High against St Mary Technical in Zone J.

Cornwall College, having opened up a six-point lead at the top of Zone A, will be looking to extend their winning record to six when they host second-place Green Pond.

Cornwall College are highly fancied to beat Green Pond again having done so on September 12 when winning 2-0 away. They have accumulated maximum 15 points, with Green Pond tied with third-place Anchovy High on nine points, but are ahead on goal difference.

Over in Zone F, only a point separates the top two in the group and an interesting game looms despite Manchester High winning 2-0 at B.B. Coke when they met on the opening day of the season on September 8.

Following the September 8 meeting, Manchester High have won three other games with the  only blemish being a draw with third-place Mile Gully, while B.B. Coke went on the win their other four games.

Both teams look strong in attack and defence with Manchester High scoring 15 goals from their five matches, four more than B.B. Coke while conceding four, two less than their rival.

Manchester High enter the day with 15 points to lead B.B. Coke by one and third-place Mile Gully High by five.

Over in Zone G, goal difference separates the top two teams. Leaders Spalding High will visit Knox College.

Knox College hold the edge having won 2-1 at Spalding High when they met for the first time on September 11 and should be more comfortable now playing at home. However, based on statistics for far the game could go either way.

Both teams are locked on 10 points with Spalding winning three of their five matches and drawing one, but have played one match more than Knox, which have won three and drawn the other.

In the day's other top-of-the-table fixture, only a point separates leaders St Mary Technical from second-place St Mary High.

St Mary Technical will travel to Highgate Community Centre to face St Mary High. When both teams met for the first time, St Mary Technical won 1-0 on their home field at Richmond Farm Sports Complex on September 10 and another close game is expected.

Meanwhile, two other teams apart from Cornwall College will enter the day with perfect records. Those teams are defending champions Rusea’s High and Garvey Maceo High, which will also be aiming to win six straight matches.

Rusea’s High, winners of the competition on 11 times, will visit third-place Green Island High; while 2007 winners Garvey Maceo High will visit Denbigh High, which are also in third-place.
