The 11-year-old girl who was shot in the head by gunmen on Waltham Park Road in St Andrew two Fridays ago, has come out of a coma which was caused by the injury she sustained.

The child recovered on Wednesday, the police reported.

She is now listed as being in stable condition in hospital.

The child was on her way home from school when she got trapped in crossfire between rival gangs of armed hoodlums who were engaged in a gunfight.

She was shot in her mouth and the injury left her in a comatose state.

The police also reported that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
