Yoplait and Wisynco give to Jamaica Cancer Society

During a pre- Christmas handover at the JCS’s Lady Musgrave office on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, Chantellee McDonald, Brand Manager of Yoplait, presented Yoplait’s contribution, in the form of an $818,040.00 cheque, to Yulit Gordon, Executive Director at the Jamaica Cancer Society.

Jamaican parents urged to tap into Cancer Society programmes to prevent youth smoking

In an interview with JIS News, Executive Director of the JCS Yulit Gordon, highlighted two programmes that the organization has embarked on to deter young people from smoking.

The Fresh Start Smoking Cessation Programme is one that is offered by the JCS in association with the American Cancer Society to help smokers quit.

CIBC' First Caribbean's 'Walk For The Cure' set for October 2

The event which is hosted in collaboration with the Cancer Society of Jamaica,is set for October 2 at Emancipation Park. It will begin at 6:00AM.

Managing Director of CIBC First Caribbean, Nigel Holness said all proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the cancer societies in the region.

Holness added that in just four years "Walk For The Cure" has become one of the region's largest cancer fundraisers, contributing over one million dollars so far in support of cancer care and awareness. 

Relay for Life raises $11 million toward cancer fight

The event was held earlier this year at Police Officers’ Club along Hope Road in St Andrew.

The announcement regarding the funds raised was made last week during  an awards ceremony held at Terra Nova Hotel, Kingston.

More women taking advantage of Pap smear services but...

Authorities say while they welcome this improvement they are however  concerned that some members of the female population continue to ignore their calls to take advantage of the services that are available to prevent or fight especially cervical cancer one of the most preventable cancers.

“We are seeing a significant increase in the number of women  who are accessing pap smear services compared to previous years,” Yulit Gordon, Executive Director of Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS).

Tufton fostering 'more compassion' in the public healthcare system

Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, has said such a plan is needed, as due to the stress and strains of working in the local health system, there is a view that little compassionate care presently exists there, this while a significant number of individuals want to offer that kind of support.

Chairperson Margot Jameson took the opportunity to announce that as a result of previous and ongoing Relay For Life fund-raising events, the JCS has managed to secure enough funds to not only help keep services affordable and available but to allow it to continue its fight for “the cure”.
