Rather than scrap her plans to open a restaurant because of the high capital that was needed to get such a business off the ground, Rowena-Reneé Xymines simply found a reasonable alternative.

Xymines is the co-founder of Chefs by Rowena-Reneé, a hub for local personal chefs, offering food services such as daily meal preparation and for special events. She handles bookings, pricing as well as training and development for the chefs.

“The service enables chefs to effectively manage their business as a chef and focus on their craft,” Xymines outlined.

Though not a certified chef, Xymines spent all her life in the kitchen, being nurtured by her mother, Sharon Rufus, who previously served as a director and instructor for a HEART Trust/NTA programme in food preparation.

“Growing up in this environment birthed in me the childhood dream of owning my own group of companies. It was only natural that Chefs by Rowena-Reneé be started in honour of my family,” Xymines said.

Xymines, who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (with an emphasis on Actuarial Science), has her sights set on pursuing a programme in the culinary arts.

She credits her background in Mathematics as a key factor behind her organisational skills, which have enabled her to get the business off the ground and sustain a small operation.

The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) graduate handles the administrative and accounting segments of the business.

Very methodical, Xymines is already planning pop-kitchens in key areas of the island.

She aims to increase the number of personal chefs from her present roster of four to 30 by the end of 2019.

Xymines also aims to have at least 80 subscribing customers for daily meal preparation.

Among her plans for growing the business, she aims to develop a mobile application for Chefs by Rowena Reneé, the ultimate aim being to build an ‘on demand’ personal chef services for customers.
