Year-old murder investigation leads to suspect being charged

Detectives from the St Andrew Central Police Division have arrested and charged a man following an investigation into the April 2019 murder of 38-year-old Kevin Barrett, a plumber of Beaumont Road, St Andrew.

The accused has been identified as 24-year-old Devaun Campbell, otherwise called ‘Chris’, of Beaumont Road.

Reports from the August Town police are that Barrett was walking along a roadway when a number of men pounced upon him and shot him several times.

Barrett was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Following a probe which lasted over a year, Campbell, one of the suspected attackers, was apprehended by the police on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

He was subsequently charged with murder and conspiracy following an interview with detectives.

 He is to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, September 18.
