ABOVE AND BEYOND and WOW WOW, favourites for the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, respectively, put their winning runs on the line at Caymanas Park Sunday, facing formidable rivals ahead of the season’s first classics.

WOW WOW, unbeaten in his last nine races, carries 117lb, going six and a half in the 10th race against overnight allowance horses, including UNIVERSAL BOSS, who is on a hat-trick of wins following two easy victories for champion trainer Anthony Nunes.

Robert Halledeen replaces Ameth Robles aboard WOW WOW, who will be without the Panamanian rider for the first time in 11 starts.

Smart front-running jockey, Andre Martin is aboard UNIVERSAL BOSS, possibly plotting to steal a march on his 12 rivals. However, he will have matching speed for the first half of the race with GOD OF LOVE and CRYPTOCURRENCY also running near or on the lead.

WOW WOW has proven himself a big stalker of pace and has looked none the worse at exercise during the COVID-19 break. In his last speed gallop, the Casual Trick-Sarah Barracuda colt easily beat top-class stablemate, SENTIENT, in a five-furlong gallop.

Meanwhile, ABOVE AND BEYOND, going seven and a half furlongs in the seventh event has won back-to-back races in impressive fashion since fitted with a tongue tie by champion trainer Anthony Nunes, beating quality colts on both occasions.

First, she surprised 2000 Guineas contender, MAHOGANY, as a two-year-old in December then returned to humble NIPSTER at a mile in her last start, dismissing the Gary Subratie-trainer runner by almost eight lengths in a smart time of 1:39.3 on her March 7 three-year-old debut.

ABOVE AND BEYOND faces MAHOGANY’s stablemate, lightly raced DOUBLE CROWN, who is warming up for the 2000 Guineas. DOUBLE CROWN is unbeaten in two starts, both this season, winning his races by a combined sixteen-and-a-half lengths.

However, the Bellamy Road-Salty Talk gelding takes a while to get going in his races and could also give away lengths at the start, a punishable offence against ABOVE AND BEYOND in a middle-distance race.

ABOVE AND BEYOND has both speed and stamnina in her pedigree, sired by sprint stallion Blue Pepsi Lodge and her dam being a half-sister to last season’s Triple Crown winner, SUPREME SOUL as well as top stayer, BIGDADDYKOOL, a Superstakes and Governor’s Cup winner.
