Women test digital skills to mark Girls in ICT Day

Dozens of girls and young women from across Jamaica came together to test their digital skills as they marked the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Girls in ICT Day on 26 April.

The event, themed #SafeGirlsSafeFuture, was aimed at giving high-school and tertiary level students the chance to try using their skills to solve social challenges and take a step on the path towards becoming creators of technology.

Students from 25 institutions participated in the event, which took place at the UWI Mona Visitor’s Lodge.

The day was part of both a regional and global initiative aimed at encouraging more women to pursue studies in scientific, technological and mathematical fields and ultimately launch careers in ICT.
