Woman killed in brazen drive-by shooting in Patrick City
A 29-year-old woman was killed in a brazen drive-by gun attack in Patrick City, St Andrew on Tuesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Renée Virgo of a St Andrew address.
Reports are that about 8.15 am, Virgo was driving her Honda CRV along Patrick Drive when a number of shots were fired from a white car that drove up alongside her vehicle.
Virgo sped off but lost control and hit an embankment. The attackers in the white vehicle then drove off.
Police were called to the area and the body of Virgo was found slumped over the steering wheel of her car.
The killing brings to three the number of women attacked and killed in the St Andrew South police division in a little over a month.
In June, two women, said to be sisters, were attacked and killed in the neighboring community of Duhaney Park.
Reports are that the women, 33-year old Salami Plumber, a teacher employed to Inswood High School in St Catherine, and her 35-year old sister Simona Plumber, a recruiter for an employment agency in Kingston, were at home on Keats Avenue when men posing as workmen for a utility company entered the house.
The sisters were shot several times before the men fled from the area. Investigators have not yet established a motive for the attack.
Police said there is no indication at this time that the killings are linked.
