A woman, who chopped her brother with a machete during a dispute over fruits three years ago, has been fined $50,000, with an alternative of 30 days in prison.

Marva Beckford was sentence in the St Elizabeth Parish Court on Tuesday.

The resident of Rose Hall district in the parish was convicted of unlawful wounding and assault on June 21.

The allegations were that on February 8, 2014, Beckford and her brother had a dispute over the reaping of star apples on a property, during which the brother was chopped with a machete.

He was reportedly injured on a hand.

Despite their paternal connections, the dispute continued through the three-year duration of the case in court.
