WILL IN CHARGE won Saturday's Diamond Mile at Caymanas Park amid high drama after jockey Robert Halledeen almost lost the event while playing to the crowd inside the last half-furlong.

It took a photo-finish to decide the winner of the event, which was already marred by the unfortunate scratch of favourite SHE'S A MANEATER, who bolted prior to the start and was declared a non-runner after jumping the rail and dashing through the infield.

With SHE'S A MANEATER out of the race, it was always going to be easy for WILL IN CHARGE, who had lost November's Superstakes to the filly by a head bob after beating her into third place in October's Gold Cup.

However, Halledeen caused the five-year-old's connections anxious moments as they awaited the photo-finish to know whether fast-finishing BIGDADDYKOOL, with Dick Cardenas, had won with his charging run down along the rail.

"I will have to have a serious talk with him," owner Wilbert Bagwandeen said.

WILL IN CHARGE was declared the winner by a short head, earning $6.6m.

SHE'S A MANEATER's scratch swung the trainers' championship pendulum to Anthony Nunes, who picked up $2.2m for BIGDADDYKOOL's second-place finish.

Nunes, who also won four races on the card, now leads  by $2.24m after starting the day $961,650 behind DaCosta, who picked up three wins.

Dick Cardenas and leading rider Anthony Thomas each rode two winners, maintaining a nine-win difference in the standings.

Apprentice Tevin Foster and Dane Nelson also had two winners apiece.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday
