A man who was allegedly caught red-handed unloading packages of cocaine at the Kingston wharf was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court recently.

The accused man, Shawn Taylor, has been charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and possession of and dealing in the contraband.

The court was informed that Taylor was seen unloading packages from a vessel in the wee hours of a September morning and ran on the approach of the police. The cops said they gave chase and collared Taylor some distance away.

Despite a plea by his attorney, Damion Vassell, for his client to be granted bail, Parish Judge Chester Crooks would have none of it.

“I am not minded to grant bail at this time. He is a flight risk, he was allegedly caught red-handed,” Crooks said.

Taylor will be brought back to court on October 25.
