Westmoreland man booked for submachine gun seizure

A team of officers assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division seized a submachine gun and arrested and charged a man in relation to the seizure in Burnt Savannah, Frome in the parish on Sunday, June 30.

In custody is Phydel Williams, otherwise called ‘Bobby Phy’, of Bamboo Walk, Westmoreland.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 4am, lawmen were in the area when a premises occupied by Williams was searched.

During the search, a 2000 Kel Tech submachine rifle with a magazine containing eighteen 9mm rounds of ammunition, was reportedly found.

Williams was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

His court date is to be announced.
