The People's National Party (PNP) has selected former Jamaica and West Indies opening batsman, Wavell Hinds, as the chairman of the party’s Hanover Eastern constituency organisation.

The former cricketer, who is the president of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), was unanimously selected during a constituency meeting at Hopewell High School on Sunday.

The seat is currently held by the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Dave Brown.

In the 2016 General Elections, Brown defeated the PNP's Wynter McIntosh.

McIntosh contested the seat after it was vacated by veteran party heavyweight, Dr DK Duncan, who went into retirement after serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for two terms, ending 2016.

Duncan’s departure signalled the end of a long political career, which involved previous parliamentary representation before going to Hanover.
