Waterhouse thump Harbour View 4-0 to move up in RSPL standing

Waterhouse gave a stunning second-half display on Sunday to secure a 4-0 victory over Harbour View in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at their Drewsland base.

Rafiek Thomas opened the scoring for Waterhouse in the ninth minute, with Girvon Brown in the 46th and 49th minutes and Denardo Thomas in the 60th getting second-half goals as they romped to an easy victory.

The margin of victory had them leaping from seventh to third in the points standing while becoming a part of the quartet of teams that have six points with goal difference being the separating factor.

Tivoli Gardens, with a goal from Calarado Murray in the 63rd minute, defeated Dunbeholden 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex to continue their winning run at the start of the competition. They are on nine points, which enable them to lead the standing.

UWI limited Cavalier’s win streak to two, as they tagged them 1-0 through an 89th minute strike from Anthony Greenland, to move up two places into second position on seven points.

Goals by Lennox Russell in the sixth and Jamiel Hardware in the 82nd gave Arnett Gardens a 2-0 victory over Reno that carried them to six points and fourth in the standings, up from sixth.

In Sunday’s other match, Portmore United and Humble Lion played to a 0-0 draw at Spanish Town Prison Oval.

At Drewsland, Waterhouse, kicking towards Dairy Industries took the lead through the much-travelled Thomas, from a build up. He was fed a through pass in the penalty area to the right by Kenroy Howell from the middle of the Harbour View half.

Thomas dismissed two Harbour View defenders that carried him to the top of the six-yard box and he found the back of the net through a powerhouse to the far post.

The rest of the first half was fairly even, with very few good goal-scoring chances, although both Harbour View and Waterhouse caused some concerns for the other’s goalkeeper, with long-range shots.

Howell would again provide the inspiration for Waterhouse’s second goal, as his dribble from the halfline, during which he ran past a number of Harbour View players, opened things up for Brown inside the penalty area to collect a pass from him at the top of the 18-yard box.

Brown easily rounded the goalkeeper to tap into the goal.

Brown would pop up minutes after to once again tap into an unprotected goal, after collecting a cross from the right from Denardo Thomas to round off the scoring.
