Waterhouse stop promoted Dunbeholden FC in RSPL Monday night game

Last season's beaten finalists Waterhouse edged promoted team Dunbeholden FC 1-0 on Monday night to complete Match Day 1 of the 2018-2019 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Drewsland Stadium.

Girvon Brown’s 15th-minute strike from the penalty spot was the decider.

Brown scored from the spot after Waterhouse were awarded a penalty, for a ball that was handled inside the 18-yard box.

Minutes after the penalty, Brown, the former University of the West Indies (UWI) FC striker could have gotten another penalty when he was tackled inside the area, but the referee allowed play to continue.

Rain fell throughout the match, which prevented free-flowing football on the wet surface with both teams unable to string passes together.

Waterhouse held a slight advantage for most of the match although Dunbeholden showed glimpses of promise in their attack.

Towards the end of the match, Dunbeholden pressed consistently for the equaliser but lacked the firepower to put the ball into the back of the net.

The result means that Waterhouse joined four other teams which won on Match Day 1.

Those teams are Cavalier, Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens and Mount Pleasant, the other promoted teams.

Reno 0 Cavalier 2
Montego Bay United 0 Tivoli Gardens 2
Portmore United 1 Mount Pleasant 2
Arnett Gardens 2 Humble Lion 1
UWI vs Harbour View at Mona Bowl (Rain, no play)

Waterhouse 1 Dunbeholden FC 0
