Vybz Kartel co-convict, Kahira Jones, gets another big prison sentence
Vybz Kartel co-convict, Kahira Jones, one of three men sentenced to life imprisonment alongside the dancehall star in 2014 for the beating death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, was further sentenced to a total of 34 years in prison on Friday for the 2009 shooting of Chevallo Rodney in Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine.
High Court Judge Lisa Palmer sentenced Jones to 18 years in prison for wounding with intent and eight years each for illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
The eight-year sentences are to be served consecutively, but simultaneously with the 18-year sentence.
Jones was found guilty of wounding with intent, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition in the Corporate Area Gun Court after the trial which proceeded under Section 31(D) of the Evidence Act.
Prosecutor Hodine Williams had led evidence that on the morning of December 15, 2009, Rodney was approached by Jones, who asked him for water before attacking him with a gun.
Rodney was shot twice, but managed to disarm Jones, who ran away leaving the weapon.
Rodney, who survived the 2009 shooting and gave a statement to the police, was murdered two years ago at the same premises where he was shot by Jones.
The court also heard evidence from investigating officer, Jason McKay, to whom the case was assigned.
Jones was on bail for shooting Rodney when he was implicated in the killing of ‘Lizard’ along with Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell and Andre St John.
All four men were convicted in April 2014 and handed mandatory life sentences.
