Incarcerated dancehall star Adijah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer triggered a social media frenzy late Monday when he signaled a return to his dark-skinned look with new photos on Instagram.

His new profile pic, which was uploaded with the hashtag #darkagain, features a stern-looking Kartel with dark sunglasses and a buzz cut hairdo reminiscent of his early (pre-bleaching) days as leader of Portmore Empire.

He also posted photos of himself posing with two associates along with the hashtag #melanin.

Kartel's new look has been well-received by his throng of supporters on social media.

"Dark and handsome! The best color inna de world! Please do nuh bleach again!" said one user, 'sofiremowatt'.

Another fan, who goes by the name 'darknlovleh', added: "Yes King...let the melanin rise up yes...it activates additional strength for you to continue trodding."

Kartel, who is serving a life sentence for allegedly murdering associate Clive "Lizard" Williams, is still very popular in the dancehall world and continues to dominate the airwaves despite being behind bars for more than seven years.

Known for pushing the limits, the dancehall powerhouse controversially lightened his skin at the height of his popularity and is infamously credited with fueling the skin bleaching phenomenon.

Kartel, along with three other men, including fellow dancehall artiste Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell, were convicted in April 2014 and handed mandatory life sentences for the killing of Williams after a 65-day trial that was said to have been the longest in Jamaica’s history.

They have since appealed the conviction and are awaiting the verdict.
