It’s often said that ‘education is the ticket out of poverty’. It’s a philosophy that Ronno Matthews has been guided by as a youth from the inner-city community of Maverley in St Andrew.

Matthews has gone a step further to not only qualify himself with the necessary skills to become an electrical welder, but to set up and operate his own small business, Ronno and Associates Metal Work.

The past student of Penwood High School has been operating his business since 2009, making grill, awning and various electrical machines such a blenders and cane juicers, to name a few.

Matthews, 28 hopes to one day take his business from his home in Maverley, and build a company as widely known as Tankweld Metals.
