VIDEO: Reveal COVID infected students to schools - JTA president
Created : 29 July 2020
President of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), Owen Speid is appealing to the health authorities to reveal the identities of students infected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) to the schools they attend.
This, he said, would help to prevent the possible spread of the virus to the wider school population.
"We would like the authorities to let the schools know which children are affected by the COVID virus because we wouldn't want a parent to be over enthusiastic and take out the children before time to come into the school and intermingle with other children," Speid told Loop News, adding that the declaration "would help us a great deal to understand how to plan for (those students)."
He also appealed to the government to address staffing for schools due to what he said was the need for additional manpower to monitor students when the new academic year begins in September. Watch the video below.
