Video: NEPA, JET talk Hellshire

Hellshire is back in the news as the erosion of the extended beach stretch is rapidly taking a toll on the area, and is now lapping at the back doors of the seafood shops that occupy the famous landmark in Portmore, St Catherine.

Loop News recently visited the area and spoke with shop owners and visitors about the situation. They expressed disgust at how the situation was allowed to reach the extent it is now at.

In this follow-up feature, Loop News sought answers from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) and non-Government organisation (NGO), Jamaica Environment Trust (JET).

Watch as both entities spotlight the scientific reasons behind the erosion, as well as what should have been done to stop it. They also suggest how the erosion can be contained.
