IT specialist Shauna Vassell-Kelly and her husband Johnathon recently opened their Kingston-based shoe repair and restoration business, Elite Shoe Care.

With not many young people flocking to the shoe repair trade, husband and wife duo Shauna Vassell-Kelly and Johnathon Kelly are seeking to build a name for themselves with their recent business venture, Elite Shoe Care.

The IT specialists by profession last year opened their Kingston-based shoe repair and restoration business with hopes of not just achieving financial independence, but of creating a legacy for their two children.

“We wanted to be in a position to financially support our family and so we began exploring opportunities until we came up with the idea," Vassell-Kelly told Young People in Business.

With not much knowledge in the area, the young couple conducted thorough research and experimented with several cleaning agents to use on various shoe materials.

The two have even applied their IT background in the business, customizing an existing laundry service platform for persons to place and track their orders

Elite Shoe Care also offers cleaning and leather conditioning products at its Beechwood Avenue location.

The duo has plans to set up kiosks in Montego Bay and Portmore, to complement a main facility in Kingston.

“The kiosks will serve as means for customers to engage with our staff, who will make recommendations on the best options,” Vassell-Kelly said.
