Late last year, Andre Livingston launched his lifestyle and content development brand and now serves as CEO of a design company, Lateral Media, a subsidiary of Muse 360.

Andre Livingston has high hopes of making a name for himself in the local graphic design and creative space. But he was being held back by two things in his quest to start a business and lead a team.

Lack of capital and a misconception he held about what it meant to be a leader were his biggest setbacks.

Today, Livingston has been able to overcome those obstacles. Late last year, he launched his lifestyle and content development brand and now serves as CEO of a design company, Lateral Media, a subsidiary of Muse 360.

“Initially I thought I wasn’t much of a leader. As designers, we have a tendency to stay behind the scenes, but I found I had too many ideas and I wanted to change,” Livingston shared as the reason that led him to make the bold move to leave his full-time job last year.

Interestingly, when Livingston left his job, he went on to work with Muse 360 CEO, Andre Burnett as a creative director.

“I opted to work with Andre because with that firm, I was able to get the leverage I wanted to be creative.” Livingston said.

He was also still focused on starting his content lifestyle company, LiveHigh.

But after a few months of working with Burnett, Livingston was appointed the CEO of Lateral Media.

“With the support that Muse was offering at the time, it seemed like a no-brainer,” Livingston said regarding his decision to lead Lateral Media.

“It’s a level of subsistence, where we produce for Muse, but we produce for our own clients as well,” the graphic designer explained.

Lateral Media is focused on offering design services -  ranging from advertising design, motion graphics, event designs among other things.

Conceptualised in 2015, Livingston’s startup, LiveHigh is a lifestyle and content development brand, based around the cannabis culture.

LiveHigh earns money from merchandising items including clothes marijuana paraphernalia, rolling papers, lighters, grinders and content (graphics, film).

“We have pretty much built notoriety. We have been focused on building a brand identity and a story of the brand so that people understand before we go into heavy retail push. We are now setting up a space to distribute and mass produce,” Livingston said.
