The academic staff of the University of Technology (UTech), will be staying away from the classroom between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on Wednesday, Loop News has learnt.
According to information reaching our news centre, staff members who feel disrespected by what they say is a very low government subvention received by the highly recognised institution, will be decked out in full black to voice their disapproval.
The subvention received by UTech is reportedly the lowest of any tertiary institution and also lower than most secondary schools.
Reports are that the staff members are willing to take their protest to both the ministries of finance and education until the matter is resolved.
Their planned action is despite a meeting on Tuesday involving the UTech Academic Staff Union (UTASU), UTech Administrative Support Staff Association, the University and Allied Workers’ Union and the UTech Students’ Union to discuss the issue.
