UTech relents on fee payment before exams

The University of Technology (Utech) has agreed for Jamaican students at the institution with outstanding fees to sit their end-of-term examinations.

University President Professor Stephen Vasciannie has confirmed that institution has reversed its previous decision.

Vasciannie said in a statement the latest decision came after consultation with the Ministry of Education.

He said the new arrangement is being made on the assumption that the outstanding fees to the university by Jamaican students will be paid by the Government of Jamaica for the current year.

The UTech head said the students to receive relief under the arrangement are viewed as being in need of the financial assistance.

Vasciannie said the student beneficiaries will be required to take part in some form of service to the Government or the community.
