The man whose death triggered protest along Old Hope Road in St Andrew earlier this week nwas allegedly killed after shooting at cops.

The law enforcement officers report that they were on patrol in the Cedar Valley Road area, known as Standpipe, when they stopped Shane Williams and another man who were travelling on a motorcyle.

After getting off the bike, Williams allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and opened fire at the lawmen. The gunfire was returned and Williams was shot in the upper body, before being assisted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

However, the incident triggered a massive protest by Standpipe residents, who allege that Williams - who lived in the area - was unarmed when he was confronted by the cops, who they claim killed him in a case of mistaken identity

“They killed my pickney and talk ‘bout is a mistake, bout them a look for a rastaman,” Williams’ distraught mother told Loop News.

She was among scores of Standpipe residents who blocked several sections of Old Hope Road in the vicinity of the United States Embassy, in protest of the fatal shooting.
