UPDATE: Son killed with mom in Hanover was a gang leader - cops
The Hanover police have confirmed that the son who, along with his mother, was killed in a gun attack at their home in Elgin Town, Hanover on Wednesday night, was a notorious gang leader in the parish.
The deceased son has been identified as 25-year-old Uton Cockett, who at the time of his demise was the leader of the dreaded One Voice gang which operated primarily in the parish.
Cockett and his 45-year-old mother, Carlene Clover, were shot dead when gunmen invaded their home. Another family member was also wounded in the attack, and is nursing injuries in hospital.
The family members were at home watching television when the premises was invaded by unknown gunmen.
Reports are that about 9:30 p.m., explosions were heard at the home.
The Lucea police were summoned and upon their arrival, Clover and her son were found on the floor of the house suffering from multiple gunshot injuries.
The other family was found nearby, also suffering from gunshot wounds.
The three were taken to hospital, where the mother and son were pronounced dead and the other injured family member was admitted for treatment.
Cockett is related to Valdemier ‘Wingy’ Chambers, who was a former leader of the One Voice gang. Chambers was gunned down last September.
The Lucea police are investigating Wednesday night’s incident.
