UPDATE: Injured cop took two bullets; damage includes broken limb

A police corporal who, along with a constable, both from the Shady Grove Police Station in the St Catherine North Police Division, was shot early on Sunday morning while responding to reports of a break-in at a business establishment, remains hospitalised in a serious condition, including at least one broken limb.

The two officers came under gunfire from heavily armed men who were reportedly perched on the top of a building at about 3:00 a.m.

The corporal sustained a broken arm from one of the bullets that hit him, and it is unclear where the second entered his body, but it exited his right side.

The constable received a graze to his right foot.

The police are asking Jamaicans to pray for their speedy and complete recovery.

The criminal attack on the lawmen notably took place within a police division where a state of emergency is presently in place.
